Rice what?

Rice Bubbles. Yes, that is right....we know them as rice crispys in the U.S. I do suppose though that rice bubbles make better sense than rice crispys :)

My friend Josh Beaudin and I with our friend and language helper Stem. While here, we are learning to speak abit of Tok Pisin (Pigin English)...the trade language of Papua New Guniea. Most people can speak Tok Pisin and English is the nationally recognized language. However, neither of these are the heart languages of the over 820 language groups represented in Paupa New Guinea. Stems heart language is Benabena

Sunday Morning Service

Our first Sunday at ITF. Getting ready for Sunday morning service. Our speaker (a MK teacher from the MK school) spoke on Passion for God. It was very good and challenging. Who or what are you passionate about? What are you living for? These are some questions that were presented to us. How about you?

How sweet it is to lay down!

Traveling from the Goroka airport to the Interface campus in PNG. This was May 25th. It was sure nice to be in a vehicle after spending somewhere close to 48 hours in the air and at the various airports we landed in. It was even longer before we were able to lay down in a bed and sleep! You don't get much sleep or good sleep at that, in an airplane much less an airport.
The Land Cruiser is being used for what it was meant for :) Traveling rugged terrain and carrying the luggage of over twenty people :) One could say, "We ain't in the US no more"!

This is a sunset in Papua New Guinea in the South Pacific. The picture does not do justice to the vividness of the colors for this sunset.
I am currently in Papua New Guniea helping out for five weeks with New Tribes Missions Interface program. It is a program designed to give college age students and older a glimpse at what it takes for a missionary with NTM to preach the gospel and plant a church among an people group that has never heard of Jesus Christ and God's plan of salvation through Him.

About me

Hello,
Welcome to Smitty's Happening's. I hope that you enjoy your time here and find it informative!

A little about who I am: I was born in 1979 at Bethesda National Naval Medical Center (try saying that! It is much easier reading...and writing than it is saying it!) in Maryland with my twin bro. We were the last of four boys (total).

I am currently serving as a missionary with New Tribes Mission. Check out www.ntm.org for more info.
My field of service with New Tribes Mission is at their New Tribes Bible Institute located in Waukesha WI. They also have a Bible school located in Jackson Mich. I will be officially starting the ministry in Waukesha at the end of this coming July. My particular function at the school will be cooking for almost 270+ hungry staff and students as well as helping to train and equip future missionaries and church leaders for the work of the ministry. For more info on the Bible schools, check out www.ntbi.org

Thanks for taking the time to check out my blog!
